            Of the most important I learned in this class how people live in America with different cultures. However, this is amazing and great. People came to America from different countries.

They accept the customs and traditions of each other. So, school students have become to share

 their cultures. It was a surprise for me. It encouraged me to bring my children to The United States. Really, I like that the people respect other cultures. I learned many cultures of my classmates.

For example, when Ms. Michal asked  us we should make a plaster of our cultures, I saw the

 different translational. In addition, I was happy when I was looking to some pictures of countries’s cultures

In the past three weeks I have learned about cultural identity. I read about the differences between the skin colors, melting pot, and salad pawl. These topics thought me about the immigrant’s experience and other problems they used to have in this country. I learned that we all should respect other cultures. In my opinion, I think immigrants should mix their own culture with the new country’s culture.

Hello everyone. I choose these pictures to show you the development of the architecture identity in Kingdom Saudi Arabia. In the past, The houses and all buildings were built by sand and rocks. This way people used to deal with the environment in that time. Now, The architecture has develop a lot. The buildings are very attractive. people want to live there and make their businesses.  What I have learned from this unit is, the pop culture. I was thinking that the culture is only on the person. For example, the way people dress and how they eat. In fact, these are part of the culture but actually the culture gose through everything. Such as music, buildings, food, behavior, and even education.  

This unit about cultural identity confirm what my mom teach me when I was little. Everybody is different around the world, but at the same time we have a huge similarity between all of us. We all are human beings with the same opportunities to live and with the same capacities to be successful. It is very essential to teach children the importance of respect everybody around them. There are too many ways that we can use to show children this differences, we just have to choose the most appropriate one according to their ages, because at some point of their lives they are going to need to learn how to distinguish cultures, and they are going to know that we use differences to connect with other people not to be apart. The world is just one and is in our hands, we already mess with the environment, at list we need to live in peace with each others.

After, i learn the cultural identity unit. The most interesting part to me, it was the Hot/ Salad Bowl. This unit it was talking about people realized what part of the culture. In my own life, i thought i was an America culture beacues i came U.S when i was very young.  i did not anything before, after i came U.S i met a lot of friends and they helped me to improve my English, and U.S living habit. Also, my life had a lot of didffernt then the place i born, it mean living on U.S is more joyful than China.

Cultural Identity

      People have different skin color, eyes color and hear color. And they have many culture from different places. But live in an unfamiliar place, we need to learn and assimilate into. We can keep our traditional culture but we also accept the new pop culture.

        After I learn this culture identity unit, I feel sad because this unit was talking about brutal history 

of the past. People's skin color and life habits lead to society on all sorts of unfair. However, before I

thought popular culture is only talk about history, in fact, that not just state history. Popular culture 

include music, movie, art, technology, etc... I am very interested in pop-culture because there are 

many about culture background is I have not heard of before.

           After learning this unit, I have realized what pop culture mean. Pop culture is everything about people, subject, events, and places in the past and in the present in the U.S. It talks about racism that happened between the population in the U.S and somehow outside the U.S. Native american has suffered from racism in the past, and what they mean by racism is the color of black and white and the name of people. Moreover, I have understood that immigrents who came to the U.S. are two kind of immigrants. Some of them have changed their identity, culture, and they have stopped acting as they were acted and they just lived as a native american. Other immigrants came to the U.S., but the didn't change their identity or culture. Immigrants escaped from their country because they needed the freedom. They have also escaped from the brusher from their government and the racism from the population.

Heya!!

It has been one month since arriving in the united state of america, its has been a wonderful experience and looking forwards on what comes next, ever since I was little I had no clue about a cultural identity I’ve been living in Saudi Arabia for 12 years then moved to Dubai and lived there for 9 years, it was an amazing experience I felt like I was part of them, when  I started the pop culture class I had no idea what I was taking I started reading the book after class and during the weekend and learned a lot of stuff:for example melting pot and salad bowl, and talk about your own cultural identity, I enjoyed the some of the reading like people like us and do I look like public enemy number  one, yet still I feel I have a lot to learn about my own cultural identity.

Through I learned this unit, that's the knowledge  about Culture Identity. In general, there are three kinds of people live in the world, white, yellow and black. There are many kinds of culture are different to others, beliefs, nation, custom, languages, etc. As a "hot pot" bowl, you can put whatever you want, that can melting together and no opposition.  However, America as a small world that those kinds of people live in this country, peace and equal. 

         I choose this photo because it's has a long history and everyone should remember the meaning of this building. This building is built for a war and there are guns, champion's clothes in the war. The location at the most prosperous region in my hometown.

Hello, everyone. I am Kitty Zhou and I come from China. This is about my hometown, zhengzhou. I finished high school before I came to the United States. I took the photo about my school last month. I went back China, my hometown, so I went to my school and took that photo. The food part is the very famous food in my hometown, it's very value to try.

After finish this culture identify unit. And according those reading, i saw a lot of people in the past is try to be an American more than telling the people where they from. But things are change over time. People’s standpoint is different with the past, today people more like showing what unique thing of them and what special of them, people’s idea is changing.Briefly,we can say we should not forget who are we and where we from.

After learning Cultural identity unit, I realized that culture was build up by different fabrics. I have never thought that some of the cultures are so important to some people or countries all over the world. Moreover, when we talk about culture, it is not just talking about the past, 10 or 100 yeas ago. It is also talking about the present. Pop culture is including history, music, food, movie, etc which is very amazing. Before I decided to take this class, I was assuming Pop Culture is popular culture in the past only. Besides that, I read one article about the history in this unit. There were some people could not face the past, they got distinguish. In order to move on, they just decided or rather not to think about it anymore. It is so sad, and tough. In sum, I am very enjoying this class. Also, Michal is a funny teacher and she always makes the classroom feel so active and not boring at all. J

I really enjoyed the cultural identity unit. Each homework opened a new window in my brain in order to understand what cultural identity means and how I’m related with all their components as well as how I’m embracing different aspects of them. This subject is helping me to find out who I am, what my cultural identity is and how to acknowledge the changes because I never stopped to think about this before, until now.  I’m not learning just about cultural identity also about myself. In every homework I found something I related to. 

After reading this this unit, I learned a lot of important things based on our cultural identity, religion, ethnicity, nationality, language, and value.  is necessary because it helps people to know how to relate with others. In the first place, people come from other countries and they forget their own culture; I didn't agree with it.  In my opinion people should not forget where they come from because our culture defines our personality. having  your own cultures not following others cultures. However cultural identity is to identify where you come from and to keep your culture alive.              

GHANA

1. In  Ghana  we  sometimes  know  were  people  are  from  because  of  the  food  we  eat. The food  above  is  a  tradition  Akan  food  which is  eaten  by  all  Akans  and  kings.This  food  is  eaten  at  family  meetings, kings  meetings  and  individually.This  food  is  eaten  to  thank  the  gods  for  all that  they  have  done  for them  which  is  protecting  them  from  harms way  and  giving  them  abundant food.

       2. The  colors  in  the  Ghana  flag  has  it  meanings.The  red  color  stands  for  the  blood  our                fore-fathers  shared  in  the  struggle  for  independence, the  gold  stands  for our  mineral              wealth, the  black stands  for  our  skin  color  and  the  green  stands  for  our  vegetation.

I been fortunate in life to be witness to many special moments , moments that mark something special in my life as witness to something truly amazing. This post i want to share with you picture which show a tradition from my country.This pictures speaks for its self  , I invite all of you to remember the remarkable moment and energy felt when in the presence of OBATALA,white cloth is a reference to white light which is the principle that is at the foundation of the idea that everything is connected by the people and it really mean a lot in the Yoruba culture.he is the sky father and the creator of human bodies,which were brought to life by  olorun breath(gods).obatala is the father of all orishas and also the owner of all ORi.

 

          I am a Chinese, I choose this picture because of this picture is 

so important for my culture. I't effect my culture so much, because we call 

our-self are the sons of dragons. Dragon with a domineering, aristocratic, 

spiritual and so are a people yearning for something to pursue, incentives, 

nature dragon is a symbol of national temperament thing. That why the dragons 

is a important part of my culture. 

The Similar Food between China and America

  My poster is about the similar food between China and America. They have 3 pairs example in my poster, respectively are fermented bean curd and cheese (they are all fermented food), osmanthus cake and jelly (they are look some but use different materials), Chinese hamburger and hamburger (they are sandwich bread). Fermented bean, osmanthus cake and Chinese hamburger are Chinese traditional food, but they are similar of some America food. I think that is very interesting.

      As I know, the culture is build up by the different fabric, whether the country or the ethnic, I have never been consider some of specific fabric would have a great influence to the people or the world. But now, after I learn the Unit of Cultural Identity, I know the culture not just only reflects the people's mind and behaviors, also it is looks like a mirror, and reflect a scene of the past and present. At the same time, we do not understand why people did that in the past, or sometimes, we just stand by the weak side. In fact, This is not fair for another side. Because we do not know what happened in the past. In brief, we need to learn more or distinguish the different culture, This is important to communicate with different people, and we need to treat everyone equally.

i would like to talk about my poster. my poster talks about saudi arabia culture. some of them are related to our religion and some of them are just related to our tradition and custom.  Our flag used by the government of saudi arabia since march 15, 1973 . it is green and white color and it has our islamic slogan on it. we have the whole places called mecca almokarramh and almadinna al monawarah. mecca almokkrama is has a house of our god called " al kaabah " millions of people go there every year to do al haj and after that they go to almadinnah almnawrah to pray in our profit mohammad place. we have our tradition clothes for men and women, women wear long black dress and cover her hair with a black scarf to protect her self from men. men wear long white dress. our tradition dish called kabsah. it made from rice and meat. it is very delicious. we have also our tradition food called dates. we eat it with arabic coffee. it so sweat, you should try it.

After reading about the cultural identity  for 3 weeks i learn about other culture that make me see beyond my understand about cultural of other country, I had learn something that I never know all culture  have there  difference  and i really see the divisions between cultures can be vary  in some parts of the world,especially in rapidly changing cities where population is ethnically diverse and social unity.The poster  show how communication that comes along with sharing a language promotes connections and roots to ancestors and cultural histories.And i learn about the pop culture and high culture most people leave there culture to follow america culture but most people still hold on unto there culture and believe strong in it.

          After reading this unit on Cultural Identity. I had learn something that I never know it before I could learn it from this class. I had learn from the class culture poster. For example, one of my classmate and she was from Colombia. In there, they have many beautiful place, flower festival and holidays, but my culture is different, like we have New Year, and during that time the adult passed out red pocket (lucky money) for the children. Before I took this class, I never know that different culture has their own cultural identity, and I thought everyone were have the same holiday to celebrate. I very enjoy this class brings us together and learn together.

During Chinese New Year Eve, people usually clean their house because it mean to take away the bad luck from last year and welcome for luck to come. Red envelopes mean lucky money. During Chinese New Year, adult will pass out them to the children, and hope them have luck for this year. Teacher’s Day is the day when student thank you their teacher for the hard teaching. The images in my poster means a lot to me. The images that was about China are the holidays that my family mostly celebrate in China. Once we come to America, we barely celebrate these holiday in here except Chinese New Year. I like the holidays, but here at America doesn’t celebrate it. Which make the memories very precious and meaningful. It all means the good and happy memories from China. Cloud Gate (Bean) is one of the famous place in Chicago where people stand underneath it, and the bean can reflect yourself on the bean just like a mirror. When I first came to United States, my relatives took us many different places and museums to watch and play around. It was my first impressions of United States which make it so meaningful.

      In the last 3 week, I enjoyed learning something that new for me, and I haven't learn it before, it was about the culture identity. I have read many stories for an immigrants people whom have moved to US. these stories were about their experience of living in US, and some trouble that they got while they were living in US. I have also enjoyed learning my classmates background by looking to their  photos and infromasiones that they have put in their posters.

Hello everyone!

I had a lot of fun last week with checking everyone’s posters, I was born and raised in Saudi Arabia for 12 years and lived in Dubai for 9 years . I’ve chose to talk more about my cultural Identity in Dubai but first I’m going to talk about mecca, it is one of the most beautiful places in the world and for preforming the um-rah(pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, performed by Muslims that can be undertaken at any time of the year). Secondly Dubai, it is one of the most amazing places for living and working.

The first picture is about downtown Dubai where there’s the highest tower in the world burj khalifa(height: 2,717- 2,722 feet), and beside is the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Blvd and the Dubai mall. The second picture is one of my favorite water-sport which called flowriding and if you don’t know what that is you should check it on Wikipedia. :)

Introduction to my poster, my poster is about the eight cuisines style in Chinese food, which is Guangdong (yue) cuisine,Sichuan (chuan) cuisine, Anhui cuisine (hui) cuisine, Shangdong (Lu) cuisine, Fujian (Min) cuisine, Jiangsu (Su) cuisine, Hunan (Xiang) cuisine, and Zhejiang (Zhe) cuisine. different cuisine from different province. most cuisine from the  southeast part of china.
and the cuisine style is depend on the weather and the where the province near by. and the cuisines
taste are also different. some of them are very hot and spicy, some of  them are fresh, some of them are sweet etc. and also there has so many different to cook skill to cooking food. if you would like to find out more about Chinese food style, i suggest you go to watch "a bite of china".

I have truly enjoyed learning about cultural identity and I must say it’s been an eye opener. Its been especially great learning in a class where everyone’s from a different background since we’re all pretty much in the same boat. After all we've read and learned in class, I've decided to make a conscious decision to understand the American way of life better. Most aspects of American culture are still baffling to me, and I find myself scratching my head at most of the things I see and read. Since moving to America I’ve felt so much like an outsider that I just shut myself out and blamed it on being from a different country. I now see that I’ll probably experience a lot more if I embrace the differences, and view it as a learning experience. I don't want to be one those people who move far away from their home country’s and don't even bother to try to learn the language!
